Like Unto...

Life is like a man waiting for a train. This train is going to take him on a journey that will ultimately lead to a destination that he's been waiting his entire life to reach. Before the train arrives he is joyful and full of anticipation looking forward to what the train ride has in store for him.

Upon the train's arrival into the station, he notices a beautiful woman in the train. His excitement increases at the thought of being able to share the ride with this woman. He approaches the train, grabs the handle, ready to board when all of a sudden a feeling of fear grips his soul. Thoughts of what he's leaving behind fill his mind and begin to consume his every thought. He also ponders upon the unfamiliar that lies ahead and the commitment that will be required of him. Filled with these menacing thoughts, he lets go of the handle and takes several steps back. The train leaves without him along with the beautiful woman.

After some time passes he begins to realize his folly. Instead of his thoughts being filled with fear, they are now filled with regret. "What if?" and "Should have" are commonplace now. He figures that another train will come along eventually but what if he had boarded that particular train? His life could be completely different.

  2. Maybe if you run at lightening speed you can still catch up with the train.

  3. Jason you're such a good writer, I really enjoyed this. But you forgot to finish it -

One day a new train comes into the station. It's unlike any other train that the man has ever seen and aboard is the most perfect and amazing woman alive (or so it seems to the man). This time he grabs the handle and swings up onto the train without a second thought and rides it off into the sunset while smooching the beautiful woman, leaving all the fear and regret of past trains far behind them.
